First be sure that the microphone is active by Clicking ‘Start’, then
'Run'. Type or (copy and paste) "SNDVOL32.EXE" (without the
quotes) and click 'OK'. In the Volume Control, Click 'Options', then
'Properties'. Click on the 'Recording' radio button (dot) and make sure
that 'Recording Control' and 'Microphone' are checked. Click 'OK' to
close the Properties dialog box. The 'Recording Control’ will appear.
Check the 'Select' box under 'Microphone' (if it is not already checked)
and slide the volume control nearly to the top of the slider.
To record the voice for analysis using the windows "Sound Recorder"
1. Click ‘Start’, then 'Run'. Type or (copy and paste) "SNDREC32.EXE"
(without the quotes) and click 'OK'
2. When the Sound Recorder opens, Click on 'Edit' then 'Audio Properties'.
In the 'Recording' box, Click on the 'Advanced Properties' button. Move
the Slider for 'Sample Rate Conversion Quality' to the Right - Best.
Click 'Apply', then 'OK' and 'OK' again to close the 'Audio Properties'
dialog box.
3. In the "Sound Recorder” Click on 'File', 'New'. Then 'File'
and 'Properties'. The Properties for Sound dialog box will appear. In
the 'Choose from' drop down box, choose 'Recording formats', and then
Click the 'Convert Now' button. Sound Selection box pops up. In the
'Name' box, click on 'Save As' and type in "Personal Series"
or "Heart Tone" depending on which you are recording, in the
box that pops up and click 'OK'. Click on the down arrow in the 'Attributes'
box, scroll down and choose '44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono - 86 KB/s'. Leave
the format as 'PCM' (or change the Format dropdown to PCM if it shows
something else). Click 'OK', then 'OK' again to close the dialog boxes.
4. In the "Sound Recorder", Click on Effects (File - Edit
- Effects - Help) and click on 'Increase Volume by 25% (if that option
is available). (If you have recording equipment, this may not be necessary)
5. Have both the "Recording Control" and "Sound Recorder"
visible on the desktop (screen). While you are recording your voice
you will see the bar on the 'Recording Control' next to the 'Recording
Balance' slider light up in greens, yellows and maybe red. The optimum
color for this is yellow, but it will bounce up into red once in a while
and down into the greens, also. If it stays in green, move the slider
up a bit and if it is in red allot, move the slider down a bit. Also,
while you are recording, you will see your voice reflected as the green
horizontal line increases and decreases in width in the "Sound
Recorder".
6. Now you are ready to record. If recording for the personal series,
take a few moments and think about something that is stressful to you.
You do not necessarily have to talk about whatever the stress is, although
you may. If you are recording for the Heart Tone, please email me at
hearttonerecording@innersoulutions.org
. In order to have your voice reflect your Heart Tone, you will have
to build coherence between your heart and your mind, which can be easily
accomplished with a short exercise I will email back to you.
Click on the Record Button (it has the round red dot on it) Speak into
your microphone for approximately 30 seconds (the "Sound Recorder"
shows the length of time you have been recording on the left side) and
click the Stop Button when you are finished (it has a black square on
it).
7. Click on ‘File’, ‘Save As’. For the file name, type in your name
followed by the number 1, 2 or 3, etc., depending on how many times
you have recorded your voice for this. (Notice at the bottom of the
box is should read: PCM 44,100 HZ, 16 Bit, Mono). Take note of where
you save the files, as you will need to email them later. Click 'Save'.
Feel free to play it back by clicking the 'Play Arrow' on the Sound
Recorder.
To record a second file, repeat from step 3 (I only need one for this
project).
8. When finished, close the Sound Recorder and Recording Control.
